Higher Education in Belarus

 

Belarusian education is ranked among the best ones, and the Belarusian specialists are much in demand in the world. Therefore both, the citizens and foreign students wish to study in the higher educational establishments (Universities) of the Republic. Belarus has been involved in training foreign students since 1961. More than 20 thousand foreigners have got their education in Belarus since then.

 

There are 340 students per 10,000 residents of Belarus. This ratio is among the highest in Europe.

 

In the system of higher education of Belarus a broad network of educational establishments was shaped. Four major types can be distinguished:

 

 

- Classical University

- Profile University or Academy

- Institute

- Higher College.

 

Altogether there are 57 higher educational establishments, of which 43 are state owned (28 universities, 8 academies, 1 institute, 5 higher colleges, 1 higher school), 13 are private and 2 are run by religious organizations. Every establishment occupies its particular niche in training of highly qualified staff for various branches of national economy.

 

Classical and profile universities as well as institutes are classified as higher educational establishments of university type and provide a two level system of higher education with academic degrees of Bachelor and Master.

About Belarus

 

The Republic of Belarus adopts a favourable geopolitical situation in central Europe. In the east it borders with the Russian Federation, on the west by Poland, on the north by Lithuania and Latvia, in the south of Ukraine.

Despite a lack of natural resources, the Chernobyl accident (1986), and the economic crisis the country had to overcome after the breakup of the USSR (1991), Belarus has recorded substantial economic growth. History

 

Belarus is a country with an ancient and rich history. The first people to inhabit the territory of Belarus appeared 40,000 years ago. Indo–European tribes, ancestors of Slavs and Balts, began to settle on the Belarusian land in the 3rd–2nd millennium BC. The Belarusian ethnic group began to form in the 6th–8th centuries. The oldest city of Belarus is Polotsk known since 862. At the end of the 10th century, two principalities emerged, Polotsk and Turov, both dependent on Kievan Russia. From the 13th to the 16th centuries, the territory of contemporary Belarus became a center of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, one of the largest feudal monarchies in Europe. Read more...

 

Education

 

The Republic of Belarus has a highly developed system of education as evidenced by such statistical indicators as adult literacy rate (99.8%) and ratio of employed population who received basic, general secondary or vocational education (98%). Belarus' leading place among the CIS member states is largely accounted for by its high educational potential.

 

The indices of adult and youth literacy rate, schoolchildren and university students ratio demonstrate that our country has reached the level of many developed countries of Europe and America. Read more...

The architecture of Belarus is the chronicle of the people in wood and stone. The best samples of town architecture, ancient fortresses and castles, town halls and churches, peoples’ dwellings reflect the spirit and the talent of the nation. The architectural legacy of Belarus is an inexhaustible source, which inspired many generations of artists and architects who created the original image of the country.
